The Premier International Club in Asia
With as many as 150 dump truck loads moving every day through the construction site at Azabudai, the excavation phase has been a high-traffic, extremely systematic affair. The frequent loads contained chunks of the Club’s demolished basement levels, “underground obstacles” and concrete paving, all taken to various landfills and recycling depots around Tokyo.
Digging was performed from a working platform hovering 19 meters above the bottom of the hillside. High elevation, rainwater runoff and the narrow adjacent road were only some of the challenges to overcome. In addition, the work on the backside of the Main Building was “visually wide-open to the neighbors [who were] difficult to protect from noise and dust,” says site manager Ryota Sekiguchi.
Following the ceremonial groundbreaking on September 12, excavation and earth shoring continue to prep the site for the start of construction on the new buildings.
